Class IV Laser Therapy

Find Fast Relief for Your Aches and Pains with Laser Therapy

Did you know laser therapy could help you beat your pains?

Laser treatment in medicine has grown considerably – for brain surgery, cancer treatment, skin problems, and cosmetics. And, in the physical therapy world, laser therapy is available to help alleviate pain and promote healing.

At Rose City Physical Therapy we offer laser therapy treatment. It’s a safe, effective and non-invasive modality to treat pain and aid in the recovery of many conditions. It is also known as cold laser, low-level laser therapy (LLLT), or Class III or Class IV laser therapy.

Laser treatments work by releasing photons – light energy – through a process called photobiomodulation. This affects processes that occur at the cellular level in the body which stimulates cell metabolism to encourage healing of damaged cells and growth of new cells. These photons help in relieving pain, energizing cells, and increasing circulation to the injured area.

Research has shown that the pain relief provided by laser therapy is short-term and offers littel long-term relief. Hence, laser therapy is a great tool to reduce pain that is interfering with your ability to perform exercise or functional activity in your physical therapy sessions or at home. It’s like a booster dose of pain relief. Our application of laser is used at the beginning of treatment to reduce pain and allow a more successful rehab session.

If you are looking for cold laser therapy in Portland, OR, contact Rose City Physical Therapy today! We’ll set up an appointment for you and figure out whether or not laser therapy could help in reducing your pain.

Do laser therapy treatments hurt?

Laser therapy piques a patient’s interest and curiosity. Questions we often get are “does it hurt?” or “is it safe?”

Laser therapy does not hurt nor will it burn you. The type of laser we use for treating pain is cold laser. Treatments are pain-free and you will feel little to no sensation at all, depending on the type of laser that is used. What you may feel is a gentle, soothing warmth from the laser.

Laser therapy is one of the safest, non-invasive treatment modalities on the market. In fact, medical lasers are approved by the FDA and adhere to strict ISO standards.

Treatments typically last between 2 to 10 minutes and patients begin feeling results after just a few short sessions.

How do I know if laser therapy will benefit me?

Laser therapy is used for both acute and chronic conditions, including neck pain, low back pain, disc injuries and sciatica, hip knee, shoulder and other joint pain, arthritis, bursitis and tendonitis, ligament sprains, sports injuries, plantar fasciitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, headaches, soft tissue damage, and MORE!

During your initial visit and when establishing your treatment plan, our physical therapist will conduct a physical evaluation and assessment of your medical history in order to diagnose your condition and decide which treatment options will best benefit you.

If laser therapy is indicated, specific settings and the strength of the laser frequency based on your individual pain and problem will be established.

I’m so happy to have landed at Rose City PT for help getting back on my feet after fracturing a 5th metatarsal (with accompanying bad sprain). They have a very well run operation from the scheduling and letting you know up front exactly what your out-of-pocket expense will be (Josh is amazing: efficient and personable) to the knowledgeable, experienced and friendly therapists. I am working with Sasha, and I couldn’t be more pleased! I trust that I will heal fully and be on two feet . . . before too long.
